Carpatho-Rusyn event at St. Michael's in Jermyn - 11/23/19
WINTER IN THE CARPATHIAN MOUNTIANS
St. Michael's Orthodox Church Center, Delaware Street, Jermyn, PA, was the setting for a program presented by the Eastern PA Chapter of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society on Saturday, November 23, 2019. The event was coordinated by James Zeleniak and Sharon Jarrow of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society, and Dorothy Allen, representative of St. Michael's Orthodox Church, Jermyn.
The event began with a complimentary breakfast, followed by an introduction by Sharon Jarrow, President of the Eastern PA Chapter. A lecture presented by Bonnie Burke, Carpatho-Rusyn Society Southeastern Branch Coordinator, covered the period between St. Philip's Fast and the Feast of the Resurrection, through digitalized historical photos and discussion. Topics included how the Carpatho-Rusyn peoples stayed warm during the long cold winters, the clothing they wore, foods they ate, and activities they pursued during the winter months.
